So, now that you’ve selected an affiliate program or two and have conducted
enough research to satisfy yourself that your selection has excellent
potential, you’re ready to start promoting. This stage is one of the most
exciting. You will learn and use various strategies to drive qualified traffic to
your partner website, and thus start earning those well-deserved commissions!
Learn and Apply Cutting-Edge Strategies
As I’ve mentioned above, one of the
most vital steps that anyone needs to take if they are going to make money
online is to read, learn, and apply cutting-edge money-making strategies as
described in detail by successful internet business men and women. By this point
you should have already purchased one or two e-books that approach affiliate
marketing from a “big picture” perspective. You should now be familiar with the
basics of Internet affiliate marketing via methods such as Google AdWords and
Pay-Per-Click; Google AdSense and Context-Based Advertising, building your own
website, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Weblogs (blogs), Press Releases,
Article Submission, Link Building, Email Marketing, and other techniques. In
order to apply current cutting-edge money-making strategies to your marketing
efforts you will now need to purchase one or two additional highly-rated
Information Products specializing in one or more of these various promotional
techniques. You may need some tools, such as a Keyword Research program, an SEO
program, and so on, to help save time and deploy your strategies effectively.
Again, purchasing one or two highly-rated tools can help you considerably
without setting back much in the way of cash. Beware of products and services
that are expensive. Also beware of anything that doesn’t offer a free trial or
money-back guarantee. When reading the sales pitch for a product, don’t take the
hype too seriously. “Secret formulas” are rarely secret, but that doesn’t mean
they can’t still be valuable. There seems to be a prevailing mentality in the
industry that products have to promise to make you huge amounts of money with
little or no time and effort before people will take them seriously. This is not
the case, no matter what claims the authors make. Any strategy, technique, or
system will take time and effort, and usually some form of expense. Still, the
rewards can be well-worth the effort.
Start your own website
Although it’s possible to promote using your affiliate
URL directly, there are numerous advantages to promoting through your own site.
Having your own site allows you to create content designed to credit the product
you are promoting. It also gives you the opportunity to collect your visitor’s
email addresses via an opt-in subscription form. If your website has some good
content, it can be indexed up by major search engines. You can also use search
engine optimization (SEO) techniques to improve your site’s search engine
rankings, thus bringing more high-quality traffic to your site. Additionally,
some promotional techniques work most effectively when a dedicated URL, such as
www.your-product.com, is used rather than an affiliate address such as
www.productname.com?aid=_12345678. There are many articles on the subjects of
registering your own domain, finding a good web host, and creating some good web
content. I won’t go into those subjects at this point in time. Just make sure
you do your homework, because there are far more poor services out there than
there are good ones.
Create an Email Subscription List
By offering a free newsletter to your site
visitors, along with perhaps offering a free e-book or autoresponder series, you
can capture the names and email addresses of your site visitors. This is done
through an opt-in subscription form in which the visitor enters their name and
email address. By following up with them regarding products you are promoting,
you can increase sales dramatically. Make sure that your newsletter contains
useful information, and not simply sales pitches. Make certain that you also
provide a readily-visible means by which subscribers can opt-out of your list;
otherwise you may get accused of spamming (it’s surprising how many people
subscribe to a list and then forget later that they did so). Once your list has
generated a large list of subscribers, you can generate additional income
through selling advertising space in your newsletters.
